The district administration has intensified its campaign against profiteering and hoarding, conducting 3,245 inspections across the city and arresting seven shopkeepers for repeated violations of official price lists.
Under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Capt (Retd) Ali Ijaz, price control magistrates carried out inspections at markets and commercial centers to ensure the availability of quality food items at government-notified rates.
Officials conducted surprise checks and dummy purchases to identify overcharging and violations of quality standards. Authorities took action against 45 outlets found to be involved in serious breaches of pricing regulations and food quality requirements.
The administration imposed fines totaling Rs194,000 on violators, while seven shopkeepers were arrested on the spot for repeated offenses. Officials issued warnings in cases involving minor infractions.
Deputy Commissioner Ali Ijaz directed price control teams to further strengthen field operations and ensure that all shops prominently display official rate lists.
He reiterated the administration’s zero-tolerance policy against hoarders and profiteers, warning that strict legal action would continue against anyone exploiting consumers through overcharging or selling substandard and expired food products.
