On Thursday, a truck reportedly lost control near the Girls College and crashed into an electricity pole. The collision damaged a transformer and power lines, triggering a citywide power outage that disrupted businesses throughout the day.
A similar incident occurred a few days earlier at Stadium Chowk when a truck struck an electricity pole while attempting to avoid a pothole. The accident snapped power lines and left the area without electricity for nearly 24 hours.
On Friday morning, a trailer overturned at the same location while maneuvering around damaged sections of the road. No casualties were reported, but the incident alarmed residents.
Heavy transport vehicles are increasingly avoiding the bypass due to fears of vehicle damage and accidents. Citizens say the deteriorating road infrastructure has placed the entire city at risk.
With Muharram approaching, residents have urged Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to order the complete reconstruction of the Khangarh Bypass and main roads.
They have also called for restrictions on heavy traffic during Muharram to prevent any major incident and ensure public safety.
