National Assembly Approves Finance Bill 2026-27

The National Assembly on Tuesday passed the Finance Bill, 2026, for the 2026-27 fiscal year with certain amendments, after the government secured the backing of its coalition partners during a session marked by noisy protests from opposition lawmakers.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb presented the bill in the House along with a number of government-backed amendments, all of which were approved. Amendments moved by the opposition, however, were rejected.

Following the passage of the finance bill, the National Assembly session was adjourned till 11am on Wednesday.

Earlier this month, the government had unveiled a Rs. 18.77 trillion federal budget for 2026-27, offering relief to the salaried class and tax incentives for exporters as well as the real estate and construction sectors in an effort to revive industry, encourage investment and push economic growth to 4pc.

Despite facing an estimated revenue shortfall of around Rs. 1 trillion in the outgoing fiscal year, the government has set a tax collection target of Rs. 15.264 trillion for FY27.

Against the revised revenue estimate of Rs. 12.983 trillion for the current fiscal year, the target reflects a 17.6% increase in revenue collection for the next year.
