Punjab Revises Admission Policy for Over 750 Govt Colleges

The Punjab government has revised the admission policy for government colleges, reducing this year’s admission growth target from 20 percent to 10 percent.

According to a notification issued by the Directorate of Public Instruction Colleges, more than 750 government colleges across the province will follow the new policy during the current admission cycle.

The decision has been taken after reviewing the existing capacity of colleges and the number of students already enrolled. The department said several public colleges have already admitted students beyond their approved capacity, making it necessary to revise the earlier target.

Under the updated policy, colleges will now plan admissions according to local demand, available facilities, and institutional capacity instead of following a uniform 20 percent increase target.

However, colleges with low enrollment have been directed to take special measures to increase admissions by 20 percent. The move is aimed at ensuring better use of available educational resources in institutions where seats and facilities remain underutilized.

The previous 20 percent admission growth target was introduced two years ago for all government colleges across Punjab. The latest policy shifts the focus toward a more localized and capacity-based admission strategy.

The Directorate of Public Instruction Colleges has also instructed colleges to strengthen their admission campaigns and accelerate efforts to increase student enrollment at the local level.
