Four prisoners were rearrested after 14 inmates escaped from a police van by throwing chili powder into the eyes of police officers while being transported back to Adiala Jail following a court appearance.
According to police, the prison van had been stopped for a routine inspection when officers opened the door. At that point, one of the inmates threw chili powder into the officers’ eyes, allowing 14 prisoners to escape.
Police immediately launched a search operation and called in additional personnel. During the operation, Kahuta Police recaptured four of the escaped prisoners, while efforts continue to locate the remaining 10 fugitives.
Authorities have sealed entry and exit points to Kahuta and tightened security around Chakian Post and nearby areas. Vehicle checks are also underway on Kahuta Road, and security has been placed on high alert. Residents have been urged to report any suspicious individuals to the police.
Rawalpindi City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani has taken notice of the incident and sought a report. According to a Rawalpindi Police spokesperson, the escaped prisoners were under trial in various cases.
Police said the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Sihala Police in Islamabad, and coordination with the relevant police authorities is ongoing. Preliminary investigations suggest that a fight broke out among the prisoners inside the van before the escape.
Authorities said all remaining fugitives will be arrested and legal action will be taken against them. Senior officers have also launched an inquiry into the incident, and strict departmental action will be taken against those found responsible.
