A PML-N lawmaker in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Jalal Khan, has apologized after a video showing him vaping during an assembly session went viral and triggered criticism from both the public and political circles.
The clip, widely shared on social media, shows the MPA using an electronic cigarette while sitting inside the House during proceedings.
Critics said the act undermined the dignity and sanctity of the House, with many questioning how a sitting lawmaker could openly vape during formal proceedings. Social media users described the conduct as irresponsible and demanded action from the speaker.
Public reaction intensified after the video circulated online, with many citizens saying elected representatives are sent to the assembly to legislate and address serious public problems, not engage in such behavior during a live sitting.
The controversy also prompted renewed criticism of parliamentary conduct in the province. Some users said lawmakers should not consider themselves above the rules they are meant to uphold, while others called for disciplinary action against the MPA for setting a poor example inside the legislature.
Jalal Khan later responded by apologizing on the floor of the House. He said that if any of his actions had violated the sanctity of the assembly, he apologized to the entire House.
