The Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Tuesday honored seven university faculty members with the Best University Teacher Award (BUTA) 2025 for excellence in teaching and academic contributions.
HEC selected the recipients through a comprehensive evaluation process and presented the awards during a ceremony at its headquarters in Islamabad. Each winner received a cash prize of Rs. 1 million and a certificate.
The award recipients included Dr. Nadia Nawaz of COMSATS University Islamabad, Wah Campus (Engineering, Manufacturing and Construction); Dr. Rashid Jalil of the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore (Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics); Dr. Ifran Bashir of the University of Management and Technology Lahore (Education); Dr. Abrar Ashraf Ali of King Edward Medical University Lahore (Health and Welfare); Dr. Owais Mufti of the Institute of Management Sciences Peshawar (Business, Administration and Law); Dr. Ahsan Ul Haq of the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (Social Sciences, Journalism and Information); and Dr. Rao Zahid of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Veterinary).
HEC Chairman Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, who attended the ceremony as chief guest, congratulated the recipients and said the awards recognize excellence in teaching, commitment to student learning, and efforts to equip young people with the skills needed for future challenges. Senior HEC officials, university vice chancellors, and members of the selection committees also attended the event.
