USA Dominate Bosnia & Herzegovina to Reach Round of 16 of FIFA World Cup 2026

The United States secured their place in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium.

The co-hosts had to show discipline and composure after being reduced to 10 men in the second half following Folarin Balogun’s red card.

Balogun had earlier put the United States ahead just before halftime. The goal came in the 45th minute after a fortunate deflection off Bosnia defender Tarik Muharemovic sent the ball into Balogun’s path. The striker stayed calm and slotted a left-footed effort through the goalkeeper’s legs to give the Americans a deserved lead at the break.

The match took a difficult turn for the hosts after Balogun was sent off for a strong challenge on Muharemovic. The referee initially allowed play to continue, but after a VAR review, the decision was changed to a straight red card.

Despite being a man down, the United States stayed organized at the back and continued to look dangerous on the counterattack.

Malik Tillman then sealed the result in the 82nd minute with a superb free kick, curling the ball into the net to double the lead and put the match beyond Bosnia’s reach.

The result marked the United States’ first knockout-stage win at a FIFA World Cup since 2002, when they reached the quarterfinals.

The Americans will now face Belgium in the Round of 16, with a place in the quarterfinals on the line.
