Allied Health Professionals Council Makes House Job Mandatory for Graduates

The Allied Health Professionals Council (AHPC) has issued new regulations making house jobs mandatory for all allied health graduates across the country.

Under the new directives, the council will no longer issue professional licenses to any allied health graduate who has not completed the required clinical training.

For those finishing a four-year degree program, a six-month house job is now compulsory, while graduates of five-year degree programs must complete a one-year internship.

A significant change in the professional hierarchy accompanies this decision: allied health graduates will now officially be titled “House Officers” during their training period, similar to medical doctors.

While this move aims to standardize and improve the quality of clinical practice, it effectively extends the total duration of the educational journey for these students.

The council’s notification, however, remains silent on the critical issue of financial compensation. It has yet to clarify whether these trainee house officers will receive a monthly stipend or salary during their mandatory service period.

This development marks a pivotal shift in the licensing and professional recognition of allied health workers in Pakistan’s healthcare system.
