Bangladesh Set to Host Asia Cup 2027

Bangladesh is scheduled to host the 2027 Asia Cup, with the tournament expected to be held from June 18 to July 4 in the ODI format.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has reportedly agreed on the proposed window for the event, which will be played just months before the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe. As a result, the tournament is expected to serve as a key preparation platform for Asian teams before the global event.

The competition is likely to include six teams, with Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and one Associate qualifier expected to take part. A total of 13 matches are expected to be played during the tournament.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has also been asked to suggest at least three venues for the competition. Dhaka, Sylhet and Chattogram are being viewed as the leading options, while the final is likely to be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

One major focus of the tournament planning is pitch preparation. The ACC reportedly wants surfaces with more pace and bounce, keeping in mind the conditions teams are likely to face during the 2027 World Cup in southern Africa. This could make the Asia Cup especially valuable for teams looking to settle their ODI combinations before the World Cup.

Bangladesh’s hosting rights had recently come under debate due to strained cricketing relations with India. Reports claimed that tensions increased after issues linked to Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Bangladesh’s decision not to travel to India for the T20 World Cup, and the postponement of India’s white-ball tour of Bangladesh in 2026.

However, despite these concerns, Bangladesh remains expected to stage the tournament. The ACC and BCB are yet to officially announce the complete schedule, confirmed venues and match list.
