Sindh Hands Over All Govt Dispensaries to NGO

The Sindh government has completed the transfer of all remaining primary healthcare facilities to the People’s Primary Healthcare Initiative (PPHI) Sindh after nearly 20 years.

Under the latest move, the management of government dispensaries and other primary healthcare facilities will now fall under PPHI Sindh, a government-funded not-for-profit organization that has been running health centers in rural and underserved parts of the province since 2007.

The decision represents a major restructuring of Sindh’s frontline healthcare system, especially for communities that rely on public dispensaries and basic health units as their first point of treatment.

According to official details, the new arrangement places the day-to-day administration, operational management and related responsibilities of these facilities under PPHI Sindh. The Health Department has already informed District Health Officers about the new system.

With the transition, the role of DHOs will now be limited mainly to polio drives and routine immunization programs, instead of overseeing the full administrative functioning of dispensaries.

PPHI Sindh says it is already managing more than 1,350 health facilities across 26 districts. The organization claims these centers provide millions of outpatient consultations, laboratory tests, maternal healthcare services and family planning interventions every year.

It has also said that more than 300 Basic Health Units have been upgraded into round-the-clock maternity centers, aimed at improving access to essential care in remote areas.
