Karachi Board Postpones Matric Science Group Results

The Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) has delayed the announcement of the Matric Science results by two days to carry out an additional verification process after an unusually high number of students secured top grades.

According to the board, a special review, termed “super checking,” has been initiated for students who obtained A-1 and A grades to ensure the accuracy and transparency of the results.

Acting Chairman Masharraf Rajput said around 175,000 students appeared in the Matric Science examinations, with nearly 86,000 students securing A-1 and A grades. He said the board decided to conduct the review after the number of A-1 grades was found to be higher than last year.

He added that the verification is being carried out by experienced and reputable teachers instead of board staff. The process involves matching compiled results with manual award sheets and answer scripts before the results are finalized.

Rajput said the review is aimed at ensuring complete transparency so that no questions are raised over the results. The board also revealed that its plan to introduce e-marking for Class 10 Mathematics and Computer Science papers could not be fully implemented due to incomplete software testing and the non-procurement of the required servers.

According to the acting chairman, a trial e-marking exercise was conducted on 62,000 Computer Science answer scripts, but a 35% variation was observed compared to manual marking. As a result, this year’s Matric Science results will be issued based on manual checking, while efforts are underway to improve the system before expanding e-marking to Class 9 examinations.
