Renowned journalist and podcast host Rehan Tariq was reportedly arrested by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) after arriving at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport from London.
According to reports, Tariq was stopped by officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) upon his arrival and remained in custody for several hours before being informed that he was wanted in connection with an NCCIA investigation. He was later handed over to the cybercrime agency.
Officials familiar with the matter said the investigation is linked to Tariq’s recent podcast featuring religious scholar Jawad Naqvi.
The episode was recorded before Tariq left for the United Kingdom on a private trip. While investigators are reviewing the podcast’s content, authorities have not disclosed the exact allegations or the legal provisions under which the case has been registered.
Reports suggest Tariq was unaware of any inquiry or criminal case before returning to Pakistan and only learned about the investigation after being detained at the airport.
Neither the FIA nor the NCCIA had issued an official statement at the time of reporting. It also remains unclear when Tariq will be produced before a court or whether investigators will release further details about the case.
