A lioness named Morney died mysteriously at Sher Bagh Zoo in Bahawalpur on Monday, according to zoo officials.
The zoo administration said the lioness appeared healthy in the morning but suddenly collapsed and died later in the day. Officials said a veterinary doctor examined the animal and declared her dead.
Experts said the sudden death may have resulted from a heatstroke-related cardiac arrest. Zoo sources said Morney was in normal condition until around 11 a.m., after which she abruptly fell unconscious and died.
Authorities conducted a post-mortem and buried the lioness inside the zoo premises. Experts also suggested that improper arrangements in the lion enclosures may have contributed to the incident.
Following Morney’s death, the total number of lions at the zoo has dropped to 18.
