Karachi to Upgrade Fire Stations and Coastal Rescue Center

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has launched a Rs. 100 million program to upgrade the city’s emergency response, fire, and rescue infrastructure.

The project, initiated on the directives of Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, includes the rehabilitation, expansion, and establishment of several key emergency facilities across the city.

A major part of the plan involves upgrading KMC’s Emergency Response Center to improve rescue operations in coastal areas, particularly at Hawksbay Beach, where drowning incidents become more frequent during weekends, holidays, and the coastal season.

The upgraded facility will be equipped with modern communication, coordination, and emergency response systems. It will also help ensure the rapid deployment of rescue personnel, lifesaving equipment, and other essential resources during coastal emergencies.

KMC will also establish a new fire station in Maripur to serve nearby industrial, commercial, and residential areas. The facility is expected to reduce emergency response times in one of Karachi’s major industrial zones and provide quicker firefighting and rescue assistance.

The development program also includes the rehabilitation of the Rainbow Center Fire Station, Lyari Fire Station, and KMC Fire Headquarters. These upgrades are aimed at improving the operational capacity and preparedness of the city’s fire department.

Mayor Murtaza Wahab has directed the department to modernize its infrastructure in line with international standards and strengthen Karachi’s overall emergency response network.

He said protecting human lives remains KMC’s top priority and that the city government is taking steps to provide timely and effective emergency services.

According to the mayor, the expanded infrastructure will improve Karachi’s ability to respond to fires, industrial and traffic accidents, natural disasters, and coastal emergencies.

He also reaffirmed KMC’s commitment to building a safer Karachi through continued investment in modern emergency services and public safety infrastructure.
