The Punjab government is set to launch a major sewerage infrastructure project in Lahore, using advanced trenchless tunnel boring technology to minimize road excavation and traffic disruption.
The project is part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s plan to modernize urban infrastructure and improve public services across the provincial capital.
Punjab Housing Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal reviewed the project and its implementation strategy during a high-level meeting.
Under the plan, more than 32 kilometers of modern sewerage lines will be laid between Dharampura and Gulshan Ravi.
Unlike conventional sewerage projects, trenchless tunnel boring technology does not require extensive digging along roads. This is expected to keep traffic moving during construction and allow work to continue during the monsoon season.
Mengal directed the relevant authorities to complete all legal, technical, and administrative requirements before construction begins. He also stressed that the project must meet the highest construction and engineering standards.
According to the housing secretary, the project will improve Lahore’s drainage network, reduce pollution, support environmental protection, and enhance public safety.
