Ancient Statues Found During Lea Market Restoration

Karachi’s ongoing restoration work at the historic Lea Market has uncovered two ancient-style statues, according to Mayor Murtaza Wahab.

He said the discovery emerged during renovation work in the city’s Old City area, where signs of archaeological significance appeared at the site.

Wahab said experts will examine the recovered objects to determine their age and historical importance. He added that the city administration has secured the items and will prepare full documentation to preserve the record of the find.

The mayor said Karachi Metropolitan Corporation is taking all possible steps to protect the city’s heritage. He also said officials are carrying out careful and limited excavation at the site to avoid damage to any further historical remains.

The discovery has added new historical interest to the Lea Market restoration project, and specialists will now conduct a scientific assessment of the recovered objects.
