Lahore Qalandars have released Abdullah Shafique from their Global Super League (GSL) squad after the batter was called up for Pakistan’s Test team for the ongoing series against the West Indies.
The franchise confirmed that Shafique had left the squad for national duty and that Bangladesh all-rounder Shamim Hossain would join Lahore Qalandars for the remainder of the tournament.
Shafique was originally part of the Lahore Qalandars squad competing in the 2026 GSL in Guyana. The tournament is being held from July 23 to August 1 at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence.
He played his final match for the Qalandars against the Guyana Amazon Warriors on July 26 before leaving Guyana to join the Pakistan Test team in Trinidad and Tobago.
In his final appearance, Shafique scored 21 runs from 13 deliveries against the Guyana Amazon Warriors. The Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated Lahore Qalandars by 53 runs after dismissing them for 111 while defending a total of 164.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) named Shafique as a replacement for injured opening batter Abdullah Fazal. Fazal suffered a lower-back injury during a training session at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad on July 23 and was ruled out of the Test series against the West Indies and the following tour of England.
Pakistan is playing a two-Test series against the West Indies from July 25 to August 6. The team will then travel to England for a three-match Test series scheduled from August 19 to September 13.
