Pakistan’s 14-year-old Aswa Marjan Niazi won a gold medal at the International Horseback Archery Championship in Russia, while her father, Najib Niazi, secured silver.
According to officials, Aswa finished first in the competition, with Najib, an FIA sub-inspector, taking second place to complete a remarkable father-daughter finish for Pakistan.
Their participation had initially remained uncertain after they were denied official permission to travel abroad. However, the Lahore High Court allowed them to travel to Russia through an order issued by Justice Khalid Ishaq.
Aswa delivered an impressive performance throughout the championship, particularly in the demanding 90-second Hunt Track event.
During one stage, her horse reportedly became uncontrollable and began galloping at full speed. Despite the situation, Aswa regained control and completed the course with confidence and composure.
Her performance drew praise from judges, officials, and competitors from Pakistan, Russia, and other participating countries.
Following her victory, Aswa has also been selected to represent Pakistan at the upcoming Asian Cup Horseback Archery Championship in China.
She is now the youngest Pakistani horseback archer to qualify for a competition of this level.
