biggest Bollywood flops in 2019

2019 has been a great year for Bollywood, with an average of one major success per month. This year saw a record number of films in Bollywood’s ‘100 crore club’. But someone had to lose in order for these films to win. So let’s talk about the biggest Bollywood flops in 2019.

Many of the films on the list were thought to be promising, with amazing marketing and all. Yet once audiences got to see the movie, they weren’t impressed.

Kalank

This period drama was so hyped before it’s release but failed to live up to the build up. Then again, it also had too many big-wigs competing for screen-time. Kalank cast Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Sonakshi Sinha, and Aditya Roy Kapoor. The film bagged INR 81 crores at the box office.

Pagalpanti

This film was supposed to be a no-hassle comedy made for a family audience. That wasn’t how things turned out with the film with the same run-down and stale jokes. The film didn’t even hit major theaters and took home INR 33.01 crores.

Panipat

This much-anticipated war drama was another major flop. It tells the tale of the historic ‘Battle of Panipat,’ only more glammed up and taking liberties with historical facts. While critics really hyped up the film it tanked at the box office with only INR 32.62 crores.

Jabariya Jodi

Siddarth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra couldn’t even breathe life into this film. Jabariya Jodi tried to address the serious issue of forced marriages in India, only with stale humor to wash it down. That didn’t end up well with the change in the Jabariya Jodi release date.

The new release date clashed with the releases of Mission Mangal and Batla House. The film only bagged INR 16.33 crores.

Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas

Sunny Deol’s son Karan Deol’s debut film only took home INR 7.95 crores. The rundown romance failed to make a mark on audiences with a love-hate relationship.

Then there were too many delays in its release and by the time it hit the screens it was overshadowed by competing releases.

Sonchirya

This film just had bad timing and marketing. Even the lead Sushant Singh Rajput pointed that out. Who could have expected better from Abhishek Chaubey’s non-Hindi directorial?

The film scrapped together INR 6.6 crores at the box office.

Prasthanam

Sanjay Dutt’s production Prasthanam, cast him as the lead. The film boasted an amazing performance by the actor but only managed INR 4.75 crores. The problem was with the marketing strategy, since there really wasn’t any. This movie could have done so much better.

Khaandaani Shafakhaana

This film cast the singer Badshah as the lead opposite Sonakshi Sinha. So is it any surprise it only earned INR 3.83 crores? Not even Sonakshi Sinha could sell Baadshah as a hero. No wonder this is one of the biggest Bollywood flops in 2019.

The Body

The simple title hides a very confusing story-line. With unnecessary jump scares and Emraan Hashmi in the thriller, how did the actor go from creating Why Cheat India back to rundown thrillers? After Badla raised the bar for suspense thrillers, The Body only earned INR 3.44 crores.

Lal Kaptaan

This film brought it upon itself to land in the list of biggest Bollywood flops in 2019. With Saif Ali Khan leading the period drama backed by Aanand L Rai, how did it tank so bad?

Without any publicity, it’s a surprise the film bagged INR 2.36 crores.
