As fate would have it, this year Valentine’s Day falls on a Monday. As though the COVID-19 regulations weren’t enough. So what are your plans for date night? Netflix and chill?
The natural course of action would be alternative date ideas. However, everyone’s batteries tend to be running low after eventful weekends or lazy Sundays. It would only make sense to roll with the tried and trusted ‘Netflix and chill’.
After all, at the end of the day spending time with your partner or crush is the goal of a holiday surrounding love. So we composed a list of movies to capture every mood for your Netflix and chill later today.
Pride and Prejudice
Great way to seem like you know a thing or two about culture as well as breach subjects like ‘so how progressive are you?’ A really great idea for first-timers. (Of course, we mean the first date. Or do we?)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
While this might not seem like a romantic movie, come on the entire movie revolves around Benjamin trying to woe Daisy, and eventually meeting her in the middle. The movie captures the beauty of loving someone even from a distance and doing right by them.
Veer Zara
Speaking of a doomed romance. Sometimes we need a movie to motivate us to take the lead. Not only is this Bollywood classic a perfect poster for cross-border harmony and why we need to ‘make love not war’, but it is also a really touching story.
Howard’s End
On the same note, a good movie about breaking barriers in love is the 1992 romantic classic Howard’s End featuring outstanding performances from iconic actors Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson. If you’re a Bronte fan you’ll love this. There’s a newer remake too if that’s what you’d prefer.
HER
One of the best modern love stories. This movie is bound to spark interesting conversation if not something more.
A Walk To Remember
Now talking about serious matters like long-term commitment can be intimidating. However, movies like this beautiful adaptation of Nicolas Sparks’ novel ‘naturally’ bring up the subject. Before the ‘good girl meets baby boy ‘ trope got old.
Dobara Phir Se
This is an interesting conversation starter for sure. A movie that follows a divorced Pakistani woman living in New York as she tries to reconcile with her former mother-in-law. You won’t run out of things to talk about at least.
The Last Letter From Your Lover
We really recommend this one if you’re trying to rekindle an old flame. Bonus tip, remind them of all the reasons they fell for you the first time. As well as bring up how you’ve grown since then. If not? At least you get to talk about infidelity, lasting love, and being healthier apart.
Barfi!
This might not seem date night appropriate but it is one of the most touching and original love stories Bollywood has ever produced. From the inclusivity of diverse characters to the incredible performances by Priyanka Chopra and Ranveer Kapoor.
How To Be Single
Not everything is love and warm hugs. That’s why we added one self-love story to this mix. Maybe you’re alone this Valentine’s Day. That doesn’t mean you can’t chill. To start loving yourself before you start pouring into someone else’s cup.
Do you have any Valentine’s Day plans later today? Or are you just going to stick with Netflix and chill? So which one of these movies would you pick? Let us know in the comments below.
