Humanity seems to have disappeared in people. Characteristics such as mercy, kindness and sympathy that make us human are lacking as recently more and more cases of violence against children are becoming a common occurrence.
Recently, a girl from Korangi area in Karachi made a video on social media that went viral. The video of this 12-year-old crying as she explained her story is gut-wrenching and depressing.
This innocent child spoke of how her stepfather and his brother abused and molested her on several occasions. The girl is the oldest of her 3 siblings. She also told that these people, who are supposed to be her family, warned and threatened her if ever talks to anyone.

While the law authorities failed to take action or even notice this video, the Sarim Burney Trust immediately took action and rescued the girl and her other siblings. The two culprits Gulshan Ali and Ghulam Qadir were soon after arrested by the Sindh police.
It remains to be seen if justice is served and the two culprits face the full extent of the law. However, this is not the first time such a case has been reported. There are several children that have suffered this kind of abuse and torture.
Somewhere along the line, we have lost our humanity. While we can continue arresting such vile people, it is just not enough. We should do more and pursue our policymakers to take notice of such crimes in our society.
