1st Snowfall in Iraq Turns Karbala into Winter Wonderland [Pictures]

Karbala, the city of Hussain recently saw an incredibly rare sight of snowfall. In fact, entire central and southern Iraq woke up to a white blanket. Snowfall in Iraq is nothing short of a miracle.

The people of Baghdad and Karbala were given a special surprise on the morning of February 11. This was the very first snowfall of the decade and surprisingly, it was the second snowfall to ever take place in Iraq.

The media head of the Iraqi Meteorological Center, Amer al Jaberi said that this snowfall was a result of the cold wave coming from Europe.

“Snowfall may continue until Wednesday given the very cold weather,”he said.

Within minutes social media platforms were flooded with pictures and videos from Iraq.

People from all age groups were seen enjoying this rare occurrence. The first snowfall in the capital city was recorded in 2008, however, it was quick and by the time people figured out what really happened, it stopped. Prior to that, it had been a century since Baghdad saw any snowflakes.
