Anushka Sharma is set to make a splash in Netflix with ‘Mai’. The actress won’t be gracing the screen but rather producing the project. Bollywood Badshah Shahrukh Khan and Karnesh Sharma’s Clean Slate Films will be sharing the production credits.

Previously the Sui Dhaga actress collaborated with Netflix in Hindi horror flick Bulbul.

Meanwhile, Mai is more of a thriller/social drama. It revolves around a 47-year-old wife-and-mother, Sheel. Sheel is accidentally roped into a downward spiral of violence and power after a personal tragedy.

Atul Mongia is writing the Netflix series with Tamal Sen, and Amita Vyas. While Sudip Sharma is the creative producer.

Other stakeholders include Bela Bajaria (VP, and International Originals). All partners are focused on telling Indian stories, hopefully through a culturally correct lens.

“India is home to some of the world’s greatest stories. It’s been thrilling to watch these amazing storytellers embrace the artistic freedom possible at Netflix to create entertaining stories. Audiences everywhere will love these five inventive series set in stories of horror, drama and comedy.”

Meanwhile, Shahrukh Khan is co-producing a horror series for the online streaming giant. Netflix’s Betaal is a horror series.

Anushka Sharma – A Thriller/Horror Fan?

This isn’t the first time Anushka took on the streaming world with Netflix. Previously she created Bulbul for the platform.

The horror film follows a man who returns home after many years, only to find his brother’s child bride, now grown up and abandoned. During this time, his ancestral village is also plagued by a spate of mysterious deaths.

“It will tell the story of Satya and his brother’s child bride who gets separated after Satya is sent to school in England. After he returns, he finds out that Bulbul has been abandoned by his brother and has been serving the people of the village.”

Anushka Sharma seems to have a knack for thriller and horror. Her previous production projects NH10 and Pari are thriller and horror movies respectively.

Based on Anushka Sharma’s future plans, she’ll be doing a lot more collabs with the streaming giant. She’s also down for some more creative stuff.

“This is my second collaboration with Netflix after Bulbul and we are again looking to disrupt the kind of content audiences are consuming. We at Clean Slate Films have been dedicated to making clutter-breaking, powerful stories since our first production and we are looking forward to push the content envelope.

On why Netflix is a good fit for her:

“The creative freedom to be able to translate these stories to screens that reach a global audience is exciting for us, which is why Netflix is such an important partner.”
