Following the strong public backlash on the suicide of MAO College Lecturer Muhammad Afzal, Punjab Higher Education Department launched a probe into the matter. Now the MAO College principal has been removed over negligence in issuing a letter that cleared Muhammad Afzal of all accusations.
Yesterday the Punjab HED removed the principal of MAO College, Dr. Farhan Ebadat Yar Khan from the post when he was found guilty of showing negligence in a matter of sexual harassment allegations against a lecturer who committed suicide.
HED came to the decision following an inquiry into the matter.

The Findings
HED Secretary Sajid Zafar Dall had constituted a four-member committee to probe the sexual harassment allegation and suicide of lecturer Muhammad Afzal. The probe committee was led by the University of Okara Vice-Chancellor Professor Zakria Zakar.
The committee looked into the matter and recommended the removal of the MAO College principal from his post. On the recommendation of the committee, HED removed the principal from the post on administrative grounds immediately.
Vice Principal Prof Riaz Ahmed Hashmee was given interim charge till further orders.
The committee had found Dr Farhan Ebadat Yar Khan guilty of showing negligence in delaying the report of an inquiry over sexual harassment allegations against the Muhammad Afzal. The lecturer had been proved innocent by the institute’s anti-harassment inquiry committee.

Despite the anti-harassment inquiry committee’s report, the chairman of the anti-harassment committee Dr. Farhan Ebadat Yar Khan did not provide Muhammad Afzal his exoneration letter or clearance certificate.
Muhammad Afzal later committed suicide over not getting the certificate after the inquiry had found him innocent. The MAO lecturer made this decision after incessantly demanding the clearance certificate from the principal and the chairman of the anti-harassment committee. But he was not entertained by Dr. Farhan Ebadat Yar Khan.
Once the anti-harassment inquiry committee given report that proved innocence of the teacher, then committing suicide over delay of another report seems too extreme.
Nevertheless, the principal should had issued the desired report – he surely did the criminal negligence.
he should be hanged effective immediately.

The female student imposing false obligations on the respected teacher should also be punished.
