Journalist Found Dead in His Car Near Holy Family Hospital

Police say the body is four to five days old.

The decomposed body of a 60-year-old journalist has been found from a car in the parking area of Rawalpindi’s Holy Family Hospital.

According to the police, the car had been there for several days, but no one noticed that a man was lying on the back seat of it. The police were called when a passerby felt a stinking smell coming from the car.

Initial investigation revealed that the deceased was a journalist identified as Shafaat Ali Sheikh, who often used to sleep in his car and eat from the nearby hotels.

Details of the incident

Police say the body was four to five days old and had no evidence of torture. Sleeping pills and injections were also found in the car.

Qaiser Nadeem, SHO New Town, told media that the deceased was a journalist in print media and had been associated with many Urdu newspapers in the past. He spent most of his time either at work on the streets and rarely went home.

“We contacted the deceased family, and she told us that her father was a heart patient and a drug addict. He frequently took relaxants and rarely visited home.”

SHO said the deceased used to sleep in his car for over a year and kept a blanket, a pillow, and a shaving kit in his car.

Before choosing Holy Family’s parking lot as his sleeping spot, he used to sleep in his car after parking it opposite the old GTS Bus stand in Saddar.

The officer believes Shafaat died of a heart attack due to the excessive use of drugs.

Moreover, the police are also interrogating the security staff and checking the CCTV footage to know when the car was parked there.
