Here’s Who Nominated Mehwish Hayat for the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz [Video]

Wait, what?

Fawad Chaudhry

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry actively voices his opinions on the current happenings in Pakistan. But he sometimes goes overboard with it and invites trouble instead.

Recently, he appeared on Aik Din Geo Ke Sath, where he discussed his political career and his goals for the youth. While talking about Pakistani media, Fawad Chaudhry revealed that it was he who recommended Mehwish Hayat’s name for the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Pakistan’s highest civilian honor.

When host, Sohail Warraich asked him about his favorite musician and actress, Fawad replied,

“Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, he has the kind of music that has a social touch to it. Mehwish Hayat is also brilliant. As minister, I recommended her name for Sitara-e-Imtiaz because her film business was beyond any other. I recently met her for the first time.”

The host got a little perplexed at this. However Fawad explained that he had always wanted youngsters to be nominated for awards. He also mentioned that when he was a minister, he used to take awards very seriously.

“It is a very interesting thing in Pakistan but people do ask for their names to be recommended for awards. So many people do it that there’s no limit to it.”

When Sohail Warraich asked him if Mehwish asked him to recommend her name for the honorary title, he refuted it and said,

“We always wanted awards to be given to the toppers in every field. We enforced this on merit as well.”

Mehwish Hayat was awarded with the award on March 23, 2019 by Arif Alvi, the President of Pakistan. The ceremony was held in Islamabad.
