Just when you think Punjab minister Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan couldn’t get lower. This time the politician went ahead and called disabled children as ‘Azaab’ for parents.
You’d think the Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan would have learned to think before he speaks after his distasteful remarks about our Hindu community, but he did it again.
No one appreciates what he said, and even Muniba Mazari took him to school on Twitter.
Here’s what happened during a recent press conference:
@Fayazchohanpti, keep the reference to #disabled children in a negative manner out of your political statements. It is disgusting and deplorable. Hoarding is a crime but a child born with physical, sensory or cognitive disabilities has nothing to do with it. @Dr_YasminRashid pic.twitter.com/CDHPs6KSGv

In the midst of a press conference, with Dr. Yasmeen Rashid, Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan ‘explained‘ that children pay for the crimes of their parents and that’s how disabled children are ‘Allah’s azaab for such parents.‘

People were appalled by this insensitivity, most of all Muniba Mazari. The ex-Hum News host spoke about how her mother is no less proud of her disabled daughter.
Is this for real? I’m appalled & disgusted! @ImranKhanPTI Sir, I hope you watch this & ask your team to have some empathy, wisdom, decency and grace! This is Shameful!
PS: I am a person who’s differently abled & my mother takes pride in what I’ve done for my country so far! https://t.co/uGrQWDgap6— Muniba Mazari (@muniba_mazari) March 17, 2020
Others joined in to condemn the politician’s insensitivity.
It is absolutely deplorable and inexcusable.

This man is a gift that keeps on giving . Insensitivity, incompetency & inefficiency-all in one.

People like him are the azaab or corrupt politicians not harmless and innocent kids who are closer to Allah than you and I will ever be!
— Tyrone Tellis (@Tyrex31) March 17, 2020
Even Minister of Human Rights, Shireen Mazari called out Chohan on the comments.
Special children are not an "azaab" but are special human beings to be cared for and loved and allowed to develop their own potential. In fact no child can ever be an "azaab" and for anyone to make such a cruel, inhumane statement is absolutely unforgivable and condemnable.
— Shireen Mazari (@ShireenMazari1) March 17, 2020
Yet there were people who were trying to rationalize the politician’s remarks.

Blessing! It’s a blessing from Allah! Alhumdolillah. Neither test nor trial!

Differently abled children are a bigger and more precious gift from God. They teach us more then we teach them. Disgusted!

Yes that's my point. Adults are responsible for what happens to children. Its not an azaab. But a consequence nevertheless.

People are questioning why he was reappointed after his comments about the Hindu community.
Unfortunately, whenever he speaks, there is something objectionable in that! Why can't he be just put aside and not given any portfolio whatsoever?? @ImranKhanPTI you have to personally look into this and set an example! @MehrTarar are you sure you spoke about the same guy?

This is on @ImranKhanPTI now. We’ve had people say a lot of bad things over the years but nothing of this level. I hope we put self respect and human dignity before politics. Kick Chohan out of the party pic.twitter.com/qcEuwpIdyo

Regardless of what the norm was a few years ago, a more aware public demands more professionalism from its politicians and government figures. Fayyaz Chohan needs to do better and take responsibility for his remaks.
