Pakistan is set to have its first-ever Pashto web series. The series Gudai by RINSTRA will tackle the issue of child marriages in the society.
Pashto is a popular language that is spoken by around 60 million people and 35 million people in Pakistan. Despite such large numbers, the Pashto film and drama industry has not been able to grow in popularity. This is mainly due to the poor scripts, indecent content, and piracy issues. However, digital platforms like RINSTRA are looking to breathe in life into Pashto content.

RINSTRA, in collaboration with Classic Broadcasting, is set to produce the first-ever Pashto web-series for their digital platform. Gudai is a web-series, written and directed by Bakht Rawan Bakht. This series introduces new and young Pashto artists like Manadar Sadiq, Bibi Shereena, Shabana Azmi, Roma and Adnan Bakht in the lead.
Adnan Shaukat, the Chief Executive Officer, for Classic Broadcasting, shared his thoughts about the lack of Pashto content in Pakistan, he said:
“Content diversity is a big challenge for the media industry in Pakistan, whereas regional mediums have been sidelined by the mainstream media due to lack of vision by the industry players.”
The new web series is a new milestone for the Pashtu showbiz industry. The poor quality and unrealistic plot usually used to represent Pakhtun culture has been dissonant with the one that many Pakhtuns want to show to the world. Often women are objectified, and men own both the gun and the girl.
With Gudai, RINSTRA and Classic Broadcasting will push the industry for better production and storytelling to revive the Pashto entertainment industry.
