As India cracks down on weddings to spread the Coronavirus pandemic that has debilitated the nation, one Indian couple got creative. They literally took their wedding to the next level.
In fact, they’re now viral for their ingenuity to evade the ban on weddings. India’s wedding season has been tainted by the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Unlike the scores of other people that rescheduled their wedding, Rakesh and Dakshina from Tamil Nadu weren’t about to reschedule. In a way, they jetted off with their wedding… as their wedding was in mid-air on an airbus.

They invited over 100 guests, just like a real wedding. Rakesh and Dakshina booked a chartered flight with SpiceJet from Madurai to Bangalore.
In order to accommodate all the wedding guests, they booked out the entire plane. Why the flight route from Madurai to Bangalore? The couple wanted to have the ceremony whilst flying over the Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple to receive religious blessings.
Netizens are losing their cool because of the crazy idea. While the blatant violation of COVID-19 SOPs has people irked.

Someone else suggested that if they quarantine in Madurai then no harm done.
They should probably stay there for the next 3 months. If so, then they did the right thing.

Is Emirates Really Offering Plane Weddings?
Interestingly, Emirates posted an April Fools joke offering a wedding in the middle of the air. Looks like this Indian couple might have been inspired by that idea.
Authorities sure didn’t find it funny, as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation also released a statement that they’re investigating the matter.
“DGCA has initiated investigations on mid-air marriage. It has sought a full report from the airline & Airport Authority. SpiceJet crew is off rostered. Airline directed to lodge a complaint against those not following COVID appropriate behaviour with relevant authorities”
Meanwhile, the airline and airport authorities are also concerned about being implicated in the violation of COVID-19 SOPs. An airport director confirmed that they were unaware that the flight was being booked for a wedding, reported Masala.
Whereas the airline, SpiceJet released a statement saying;
“The client was clearly briefed on Covid guidelines to be followed and denied permission for any activity to be performed on-board”.
