The increased count of sexual crimes in recent weeks has raised serious concerns about the safety of women in the country. As we demand justice for the victims and a safer country for women and children, Bakhtawar Bhutto wants men banned from public spaces.

After the mass assault of a woman at Minar-e-Pakistan, several other crimes were unearthed. Multiple cases of harassment and rape are being reported on a daily basis and it really makes us question the role of authorities.

Recently, a journalist opened up about her ordeal and how she was attacked by a mob at Mazar-e-Quaid a few years ago. The police were there when the incident occurred but didn’t help her, saying that only four officers were on duty in the vicinity.

Retweeting the tweet, Bakhtawar Bhutto called out the authorities and wrote,

“Another harrowing experience – witnessed by police who refused to help despite their ability to call for backup as well as use weapons to disperse the crowd. Trusted to help and instead complicit. Men should be banned from public spaces. We need more women to safeguard women.”

Her statement raised many eyebrows but she still stands by it. Later, she reiterated that there is no better option than banning single men from the public.

“Re my tweet banning men from public. I stand by it. Single men should not be allowed out without being escorted by sisters, mothers, wives or daughters – perhaps then they will think twice before assaulting women. With repeated & increasing incidents of assault no better option.”
