As Netflix releases the trailer for the Marilyn Monroe biopic ‘Blonde‘, we wonder if we finally get to see Spanish actress Ana de Armas act.
From the Night Cleric to Blande Runner, the starlet has more or less served as eye candy with brief cameos. Now with a central role, we might finally get a look at her acting calibre.
“We worked on this film for hours, every day for almost a year,” de Armas told Netflix Queue earlier about the film.
As per the actress, she tried to tell the story of Norma Jeane not just Marilyn Monroe the star.
“I read Joyce’s novel, studied hundreds of photographs, videos, audio recordings, films — anything I could get my hands on. An existing photograph inspires every scene. We’d pore over every detail in the photo and debate what was happening in it. The first question was always, ‘What was Norma Jeane feeling here?’ We wanted to tell the human side of her story. Fame made Marilyn the most visible person in the world, but it also made Norma the most invisible.”
One of the most iconic faces in Hollywood, Marilyn Monroe, had a whole lot of personal struggles in the industry aside from the glamorous lifestyle in the public eye. As Netflix decides to tell that tale, Blonde cast Ana de Armas in the titular role.
The rest of the cast includes big names like Adrien Brody, who stars as Arthur Miller, Bobby Cannavale, Caspar Phillipson, Evan Williams, Toby Huss, Julianne Nicholson, Lily Fisher, Sara Paxton, David Warshofsky, Xavier Samuel, Michael Masini, Spencer Garrett, Chris Lemmon, Rebecca Wisocky, Scoot McNairy, Dan Butler, Garret Dillahunt, Lucy Devito, and Ned Bellamy.
More About Blonde
As the first trailer for the film debuts, we get a glimpse into the trials and tribulations of the classic Hollywood star.
Kiwi filmmaker Dominik penned and directed the film based on the bestselling novel of the same name. The book was authored by five-time Pulitzer Prize finalist Joyce Carol Oates.
The producers on this project include some interesting names such as Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Tracey Landon, and Scott Robertson, and Christina Oh as Executive Producer.
The movie will also premiere in competition on the Lido at this year’s Venice film festival. In fact, it’s one of the most anticipated films of the fall season. Meanwhile, Cannes Film Festival’s chief Thierry Fremaux previously said he had been trying to slot it into the 2022 lineup.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t reach an agreement with Netflix. The streamer hasn’t been to Cannes since 2017. This is due to the international film festival’s rule that all competing films must have a theatrical release in France.
The Blonde release date has been scheduled for September 28th on Netflix.
