Critics Argue If House of The Dragon Is Better Than GOT [Video]

House of the Dragon

As fans of Game of Thrones anticipate the release of ‘House of the Dragon‘, there’s a debate as to which one is better.

Is there even a comparison, given the timelines? Or do people have a point as to which one is the better series from the same franchise?

Or are people just more optimistic about the new prequel series after the diaster of a finale to GOT? What is the new series even doing differently?

It’s still HBO and George R R Martin at the helm of the project.

The prequel series has an all-new cast. House of the Dragon cast includes Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik.

Based on the preview of the screening of its pilot episode for members of the media, the initial reviews are looking good.

Collider‘s editor-in-chief Steven Weintraub said;

“I did not like the last season of Game of Thrones. At all. But I’ll admit the series premiere of House of the Dragon is really well done and I’ll continue watching.”

Another Collider critic, Christina Radish penned;

“Sometimes you’ve just gotta spend the night hanging out with a dragon! … For those curious about the series, without spoilers, I can say that the thing I really dig is the fact that it still feels epic in scale and scope while telling a personal and intimate story about one family, showcasing both their love and dysfunction.”

According to Brandon Katz from The Wrap, this opening is as structured and well articulated as the GOT beginning.

“The House of the Dragon pilot very efficiently explains its context in relation to GoT, introduces its core characters, and lays out the central conflict of the series. It’s an easy-to-follow premiere with vibrant colors and detailed texture. Absolutely a worthy successor so far.”

Apparently the pilot episode opened with King Viserys Targaryen played by Paddy Considine deliberating who should be his next heir. His options? His brother Prince Daemon, played by Matt Smith, or his daughter Princess Rhaenyra, played by Emma D’Arcy.

Then a third contender arises, Alicent Hightower, played by Olivia Cooke. So who’s this woman? Alicent Hightower is Princess Rhaenyra’s lifelong friend, who marries the king after his wife dies in childbirth.

The House of the Dragon premiere is set for August 21st, on HBO Max.
