Amazon Officially Reveals Details For A New ‘Lord Of The Rings’ TV Show

Fans are thrilled to visit Middle-Earth again

Lord of The Rings fans can rejoice as Amazon Studios is set to launch a spin-off series of the popular franchise. The producers for the series share details about the upcoming series. The show will take fans on a journey to Middle Earth long before the events of the J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and LOTR books.

Fans have patiently waited 3 years for news about the upcoming Amazon series. However, we finally got some answers! The upcoming series is take place thousands of years before the events of the original J.R.R. Tolkien books. Fans will also witness the origin of the ‘One Ring To Rule Them All’. (Or as Golem would say, “My Precioussss!”)

What To Expect From The New Middle-Earth Series

So, here is the official synopsis for Amazon’s billion-dollar Middle-Earth series:

“Amazon Studios’ forthcoming series brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. The series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.”

There’s More!

That is not all! In a surprising turn of events, Amazon teased fans with a map of the Second Age of Middle-Earth. Númenor is clearly the central location for the new series.

Not Just A Limited Series

Amazon Studios has plans to write 5 seasons for the new show, with 8-10 episodes per season. J.A. Bayona is set to direct the 2-part pilot that will set the tone for the entire series. The pilot is complete and is currently in post-production.
