‘The Nun II’ Conjures Up Big Numbers at the Box Office

Denzel Washington’s Equalizer is no match for this spooky sister.

In a thrilling weekend at the box office, The Nun II emerged as the reigning champion, raking in an impressive $32.6 million from 3,728 locations.

This commanding performance successfully knocked The Equalizer 3 from its top spot, marking a notable victory for the horror sequel.

The Nun II demonstrated formidable box office power, it fell slightly short of the high bar set by its predecessor, The Nun, which debuted in 2018 with a formidable $53.8 million opening weekend.

The film boasts a returning cast, with Taissa Farmiga and Bonnie Aarons reprising their roles as Sister Irene and the titular Nun, alongside newcomers Jonas Bloquet, Storm Reid, and Anna Popplewell.

Director Michael Chaves, known for his work on The Curse of La Llorona and The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, helmed this chilling installment of Warner Bros.’ ongoing “Conjuring” series.

While The Equalizer 3, featuring Denzel Washington as a mysterious avenging angel, garnered over $12.1 million in its second weekend, pushing its domestic gross to a commendable $61.9 million. On a global scale, the action-packed sequel surpassed the $100 million mark, accumulating a total of $107.7 million worldwide.

In the weekend’s other new wide release, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, secured the third position with a solid $10 million debut. This comedy, written and directed by Nia Vardalos, reunites her with co-star John Corbett as they explore the eccentric Portokalos family’s adventures in Greece.

Adding a touch of Bollywood flair, action-thriller Jawan clinched the fourth spot with $6.2 million. The film showcases Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan in dual roles as father and son and was directed by Atlee.

In the fifth position, Warner Bros.’ summer comedy hit, Barbie, continued its successful run with $5.9 million in weekend earnings. The film’s domestic total has now reached a dazzling $620.5 million, firmly establishing its dominance in the summer box office landscape.
