Model Gigi Hadid is pulling back the curtain on what it’s like to co-parent her four-year-old daughter, Khai, with ex-partner Zayn Malik.
In a candid interview, the supermodel shared how she and the former One Direction star navigate raising their daughter while maintaining mutual respect.
“Zayn and I do our custody schedules months in advance,” Hadid revealed, explaining that Khai is always the priority. “I have no regrets, ever, being like, ‘I can’t make that job. I have Khai that week.’ That’s just the boundary I’ve set.”
While their schedules are planned ahead, Hadid noted there’s room for flexibility. “That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t change here and there, but we help each other out and have each other’s backs,” she said.
Hadid described their co-parenting dynamic as one built on “love and camaraderie,” despite the public scrutiny surrounding their relationship.
“There is the hard part of the world knowing this much, and thinking they know everything,” she said. “At the end of the day, we’re not interested in giving everyone our whole story. What we are interested in is raising our daughter together — with so much respect for each other. And not just as co-parents, but what we’ve been through together.”
Hadid also spoke about the importance of community and a quieter life for Khai. Splitting her time between New York and Pennsylvania, she shared how life outside the city offers comfort and security for her daughter. “Khai is protected by our friendships here. And that means a lot to me.”
Zayn Malik echoed similar sentiments in a 2024 interview with L’Officiel, where he praised Pennsylvania’s serenity. “I’m just trying to keep her grounded and enjoying the Earth rather than all the noise that comes with it,” he said, adding that they spend a lot of time outdoors creating memories.
Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik, who welcomed Khai in September 2020, split in 2021 following a highly publicized altercation involving Gigi’s mother, Yolanda.
Despite their rocky past, the two have remained committed to co-parenting in a way that prioritizes Khai’s well-being, proving that respect and teamwork can transcend personal differences.
