Netflix emerged as a platform that catered to niche tastes. From movies like Craft 2 to Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman. However, the platform rolling all South Asians as the same has Ahmed Ali Butt irked over Squid Game.

We’re having the ‘not all brown people are ethnically the same’ discussion again. The Jawani Phir Nahi Ani star was offended by an Indian actor playing a Pakistani character in Squid Game. The Korean horror series has taken the world by storm. While creators were meticulous about getting the details right they missed the fact that Indians and Pakistanis are distinct despite both being South Asian.

The actor and character in question is Ali Abdul, played by Anupam Tripathi. Anupam Tripathi is born in India but moved to Korea in 2010. The actor has garnered massive praise for his role in the K-Drama.

Ahmed Ali Butt took to Instagram to express his opinions on the casting of ‘Squid Game’.

Pakistani actor and host Ahmed Ali Butt is unhappy about Indian actors essaying the characters of Pakistanis in famous international shows. He said that it’s frustrating to see Indians playing Pakistani characters.

The comedian demanded why can’t casting be original and accurate with Pakistani artists playing Pakistani characters.

Ahmad Ali Butt also raised the point that films that are based in Pakistani cities should be shot in various original locations in Pakistan. Rather than in ‘similar looking’ locations. The comedian even suggested that the government launch new progressive film policies to give the productions a chance.
