Amid the lockdown, it’s great to see that humanity is not dead. People are taking it upon themselves to help others. Like Al-Khidmat Foundation workers disinfecting religious buildings.
Despite the country’s Muslim majority, Al-Khidmat workers went around disinfecting a Hindu temple and a church. Now people are lauding the move by Jamaat-e-Islami’s welfare body.

While Muslims are still arguing the nuances of offering prayers from home, minorities such as Hindus and Christians have already evacuated all places of worship.
It’s a good thing they did so that the buildings could be disinfected as part of an anti-corona virus measure.
A lot more needs to be done
Minsters like Fawad Chaudhry are quick to say;
“Coronavirus is spreading in Pakistan due to the ignorance of religious clerics“
Though he’s correct in his remarks, we can’t help but think that the government is to blame here as well. Let’s not forget that it was the government that allowed thousands of worshippers to go ahead with the “Tablighi Jamaat” congregation in Raiwind, Punjab.
In fact, Islamabad’s Shahzad Town was sealed specifically because a member of the Tablighi Jamaat brought the virus to the area.
While countries like Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Malaysia, and Egypt have banned congregational prayers amid the viral outbreak, Pakistan has not.

One netizen even suggested welfare foundations like Al-Khidmat Foundation be handed the responsibilities of the Prime Minister’s ‘Corona Relief Tiger Force’, a volunteer body to distribute rations during lockdown. That’s actually a good idea as it can tap into experienced resources that are doing great work already.
