Arooj Aftab’s ‘Udhero Na’ Submitted to Grammys

The song features Anoushka Shankar and is about getting over an ex.

Pakistan’s first Grammy award winner, Arooj Aftab, has just submitted her new song, Udhero Na, featuring Anoushka Shankar for consideration to the Grammys.

She shared the update on her Instagram post with the following caption:

She shared a line from the song as well: “… ankhon main silay hoay ho, udhero na…” and said” it is all about getting over your ex… must win for sure because we finally got over them”.

The Brooklyn-based vocalist won her first Grammy for her song Mohabbat in the Best Global Performance category in April. She was nominated for the Best New Artist category as well.

The 37-year-old has been living in New York for 15 years, and has steadily been gaining global attention for her work that fuses ancient Sufi traditions with inflections of folk, jazz, and minimalism.

She has released three albums so far — Bird Under Water (2014), Siren Islands (2018), and Vulture Prince (2021) — which gained even more attention after former US president Barack Obama included Mohabbat on his 2021 summer favorites list.

The Grammys will take place on 5 February 2023 in Los Angeles, and the nominations will be announced on 15 November 2022.
