At Least 10 Men Arrested over Karachi University Harassment Case

Swift action.

Karachi University

Yesterday, a hashtag related to Karachi University went viral on Twitter, and not at all for good reasons. Netizens deemed Karachi University as ‘unsafe’ after a student from IBA University KU Campus reported an incident of alleged harassment within the premises of the institute.

“I am writing this from a state of shock and trauma to inform you all that I and my female friend just escaped another possible Motorway incident God forbid, INSIDE KU premises. Please read it so that you all can protect yourselves too.”

Harassment Incident Reported in Karachi University

Shaheer Ali, a senior year student from IBA was going out of the university in his car with a female friend when some 10 young boys between the ages 15-25 intercepted them and tried to stop his vehicle.

“They had just one intention, and if they had been successful to get inside the car, they would have have beaten me and thrown me aside, and then… You all know what would have happened with the girl,” he wrote in a Facebook post.

The two managed to escape somehow but the fact that this incident took place within the premises of an educational institute is shocking.

Shaheer mentioned that the administration at IBA is investigating the case and now with the help of police, at least 10 young men are under arrest.

Comments

  1. This incident of harassment is shameful and must be condemned in the strongest language. But the Karachi University administration is responsible for laxity in security patrolling and poor lighting. Head of security KU must resign and professional security expert should be appointed to prevent future incidents of this nature.

A thorough independent investigation should be conducted by a high powered judicial commission of othe Sindh High Court to determine the real culprits responsible.
