Finally, the most awaited BTS solo song, The Astronaut, by Kim Seojin (aka Jin) was finally released yesterday morning, much to the delight of Armies before he enlists in the South Korean army this year, and rocketed to the top of the iTunes chart around the world.

According to Big Hit Entertainment, the song is trending at the No.1 position on the iTunes chart in at least 97 different countries including the United States, Germany, France, the UK, and Canada.

In less than 24 hours, The Astronaut surpassed more than 19 million views and sold more than 700,000 copies.

Chris Martin and Jin in Argentina.

The song is a collaboration between Jin and Coldplay, with the lyrics written by the singer, poignantly capturing his affection for Army, with assistance from Coldplay.

Just over a year ago, two of the world’s biggest bands joined forces for the ‘intergalactic’ hit My Universe last September. A sweet friendship blossomed that has now delivered another heartfelt song, The Astronaut.

Note that Chris Martin had given Jin his guitar as a special gift back then which foreshadowed their next collaboration in 2022.

The Astronaut is a very special song as it is a gift from Chris Martin and Coldplay for Jin. The song came about after Jin spoke to Coldplay’s frontman about how he felt about leaving Army behind for two years while he served in the South Korean military.

Martin said that Jin wanted a song that is like a temporary goodbye to loved ones. He also revealed that he had been moved by BTS’s oldest member’s pure, powerful, and deep emotions.

Coldplay and ‘silver voiced’ Jin gave a special premiere performance of The Astronaut in Buenos Aires,  Argentina, yesterday in front of a screaming crowd, and they left Armies in tears at the concert and in the live stream.

People went gaga over the brotherly bond between Chris Martin and Jin at the concert.

Jin running across the stage into Chris Martin’s arms and getting a kiss from him was the most wholesome and heart-touching moment of the entire concert.

Fans thought Jin was laughing here but eagle-eyed Armies spotted the tears in his eyes.

This song is most precious to all of Jin’s fans as it is his last song before his long break.
