Despite the limited number of screenings across Pakistan, The Legend of Maula Jatt continues to rake in big numbers, so far making Rs. 7.96 crores locally.
Pakistan’s most expensive film ever made is on its way to becoming one of the highest-grossing films in local cinema’s history. It is getting rave reviews from cinema-goers but its domestic release has been marred by a deadlock between distributors and major cinema houses across Pakistan.
On Friday, Syed Jibran tweeted on social media that there is a ‘deadlock’ between the movie’s distributor, Nadeem Mandviwalla, and the two major Pakistani cinemas — Nueplex and Cinepax over The Legend of Maula Jatt. According to the actor, the distributor is demanding an increased ticket price and percentage share between the cinemas and himself.
Syed Jibran tweeted, “By increasing the ticket price they are just decreasing the repeat customers. It’s shortsightedness. Plain and simple. This will badly damage the reputation as well as a chance to create a historic box office first day score for the film”.

At the moment, six theatres in Lahore; two each in Gujranwala, Multan, and Silakot; and one each in Islamabad, Gujrat, Sargodha, Mandi Baha Uddin, and Karachi are currently screening the film.
The Legend of Maula Jatt is a reboot of the 1979 cult classic Punjabi movie Maula Jatt. Produced by Ammara Hikmat, with dialogues penned by Nasir Adeeb, it was created as a joint venture of Encyclomedia and Lashari Films in association with AAA Motion Pictures. The film stars Fawad Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Mahira Khan, and Humaima Malick in the lead roles.
It is hoped that major cinemas across Pakistan soon come to an agreement on the film’s screening so that the masses can enjoy this blockbuster film in all its glory on the big screens nationwide.
