Court Adjourns Hearing on Ali Zafar’s Defamation Suit Against Meesha Shafi

Here’s why.

It has been a while since the last development in the case against popular singer Meesha Shafi and artist Ali Zafar, who is alleged to have harassed her multiple times. Since then, social media has been in discussion about who was in the wrong.

The scandalous issue left people divided on who to believe. However, in recent times, given some technicalities in existing laws, Ali Zafar has managed to clear his name somewhat of the allegations made against him.

 

Recently, Ali Zafar filed a defamation lawsuit against Meesha Shafi for Rs. 100 million. The hearing of the defamation suit against the singer has been adjourned till June 22. Due to the ongoing coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic, both lawyers of Ali Zafar and Meesha Shafi did not appear in court.

According to reports, the hearing was presided over by Additional Session Judge Amjad Ali Shah. Saqib Jilani, Meesha Shafi’s lawyer and Ali Zafar’s legal representative Hisham Ahmad Khan did not appear in court due to the dangers of coronavirus.

Meesha Shafi’s mother and actress Saba Hameed, recently recorded a statement in her daughter’s defense. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the court has adjourned the hearing till June 22 and summoned other witnesses involved in the case for the next hearing.
