As the British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II was laid to rest, many shared condolences from all across the world. This includes Bond star Daniel Craig.
At the Toronto Film Festival, the Kings actor recalled working with the Queen. Saying he feels ‘very lucky’ to have worked with her.
At the world premiere of his film, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery at the TIFF, Daniel Craig said;
“I was just very lucky to be part of something, the Olympics, and to get to work with her on something that I think a lot of people enjoyed and liked and laughed at.”
On the other hand, writer-director Rian Johnson thanked another queen. The ‘Queen of murder mysteries Agatha Christie’. The Knives Out series drew inspiration from the works of the legendary writer.
Meanwhile, producer Ram Bergman feels mystery films are as contemporary as it gets.
“It feels current, it feels now. It deals with issues we’re dealing with day-to-day, … Studios and filmmakers, for whatever reason, thought no one was interested (in the genre), but actually people are.”
Following the same pattern of noir mystery, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery follows Southern detective Benoit Blanc (Craig) to a Greek Island as he sets out to solve a new mystery. In Greece, Benoit encounters a group of quirky characters played by stars including Kate Hudson, Kathryn Hahn, Edward Norton, Leslie Odom Jr. and Janelle Monáe.
All the cast members at TIFF were tight-lipped about the plot, not wanting to divulge any spoilers. However, Kate Hudson said she very much enjoyed playing her character Birdie Jay.
“It was like putting on a different skin and I really loved every second of it.”
After the first film, Knives Out grossed over $300 million at the worldwide box office, Rian Johnson penned a sequel into his schedule. The filmmaker hopes to ‘scratch the same itch’ with the sequel.
