Deepika and Priyanka In Trouble Over Fake Instagram Followers

Wait what?

Instagram

Social media, especially Instagram has become a sports contest where people often take part in the race of ‘being the most followed Instagram personality’.

While there are apps that instantly boost up your followers’ account, other options like buying fake followers also exist. And almost all celebrities resort to the latter.

Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) did an Instagram audit to check how many celebrities all over the world have fake followers. The results came out to be shocking as some of the big names including Ellen Degeneres, Kourtney Kardashian, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry had 47-49% fake followers.

Among these American celebrities, Bollywood’s two beloved actresses, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra Jonas also came under the radar with each having 45% and 43% fake or paid Instagram followers.

Indian media reported that the two actresses are likely to be interrogated by the Mumbai Police on the matter. Mumbai Police has also tracked down social media handles of other high-profile personalities with paid followers.

Apart from these two, other 176 accused celebrities have paid agencies to gain fake followers on social media. These include Bollywood actors, sportspersons as well as builders.

Mumbai Joint Commissioner of Police Vinay Kumar Chaubey stated,

“We have investigated and found as many as 54 firms involved in this racket. SIT comprising Crime Branch along with Cyber Cell has been formed which will help in investigating this case.”

It seems that Indian police is trying to prosecute people over buying Instagram followers.
