Deepika Padukone Isn’t Replacing Kangana in ‘Imli’ After All

Deepika is just too graceful to pick a fight.

Rumors of Deepika Padukone playing the lead in Imli have been extinguished.

Word around the block was that Deepika Padukone will replace Kangana Ranaut in Anurag Basu’s film Imli. People were expecting a face-off between two of Bollywood’s highest-paid divas for the role.

Sources told The Asian Age that ‘this was nothing but wishful thinking‘.

Since Kangana rejected the role, any actress who picks up the role could never live past this. Knowing Kangana’s penchant for throwing tantrums, that may have been more than a potential possibility.

Sources add that:

“Deepika would never do a role rejected by Kangana, she would never hear the end of it. Kangana and her sister love to tell the film industry and the audience about the roles that Kangana has rejected.

Not a very nice thing to do. But then Kangana and her spokesperson-sister do what they like, regardless of repercussions. Deepika certainly doesn’t want to get into an embarrassing position.”

Sure anyone would love to cast Deepika since she is one of the most marketable brands in India. But she’s also too graceful to pick a fight.

In fact, film-maker Anurag Basu did meet with the Padmavat starlet. The meeting was indeed to proposition Deepika for the role.

While the XXX: Return of Xander Cage star loved the character, she did not say yes to the role.

“They had an informal meeting, where Basu told her about the role in Imli. She liked it, but she never said yes, and she won’t. She would have no problem in stepping in to any actress’ role. But not Kangana. There is too much baggage here to carry forward,”

About Imli

Anurag Vasu was supposed to team up with Kangana Ranaut for Imli. The film-maker had launched the actress in Gangster after all.

Later the Queen actress opted out. Anurag Basu revealed that Imli shooting was supposed to last November but it clashed with the dates of Manikarnika – The Queen Of Jhansi reshoots.

Then Basu began filming another movie and Kangana got busy with Ashiwny Iyer Tiwari’s Panga. So the dates couldn’t match.

Rumor had it that Deepika was Anurag’s first choice for Imli.
