Deepika Padukone Under Fire For Meeting Alleged Sexual Harasser for New Film

Deepika Padukone has sparked off a controversy after she was photographed leaving Luv Rajan’s office with Ranbir Kapoor. Fans feel betrayed by the ‘Queen of Bollywood‘ over fears that she’s itching to work with an alleged sex offender Rajan.

While to the amateur eye, this looks like just two ex-flames working together after four years since Ye Jawaani Hai Dewaani. To the hardcore Deepika fans, this comes across as a betrayal, that too by the highest-paid actress in Bollywood who pushed for equal pay and often talks about women issues.

The Luv Rajan Scandal

In October 2018, the #MeToo movement caught on in India, as scores of women in the industry came forward with their stories. Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety director Luv Ranjan was accused of sexual harassment by an actor at that time.

Film-maker Luv Rajan also has a reputation of making films that cater to a very specific male audience. Critics find his storylines particularly disrespectful of women, to say the least. His last film, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, was dubbed misogynistic.

Back to Deepika, the Padmavaat starlet’s fans did not appreciate her working with a film-maker accused of sexual harassment. Pretty soon, it wasn’t her on-screen reunion with Ranbir Kapoor that made the rounds, rather it was the #NotMyDeepika that started trending on social media.

Deepika Padokone’s fanbase protested against the possibility of their favorite artist working with a filmmaker who has been tainted by India’s #MeToo moment.
