DG ISPR Trolls Indian Lawmaker Who Copied a Pakistani Patriotic Song

Is this a remix or a cover?

Dil Ki Himat Watan

India’s ruling Bhartiya Janta Party has moved on from using Pakistan as a scapegoat (for the time being) to stealing our songs.

A BJP leader recently sang a ‘cover’ of Pakistani patriotic song Dil Ki Himat Watan and tried to pass it off as his own. Or maybe they’re just doing a ‘cover.’

Here’s What Happened

BJP Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Raja Singh copied a Pakistan’s patriotic song and is claiming credit for coming up with the composition. Funny thing here, the original song was produced by the Inter-Services Public Relations (the PR arm of Pakistani military).

The song was released just in the run up to Pakistan Day, which fell on March 23rd 2019. And now, almost a month later, this BJP lawmaker has a song that sounds just the same (with some words substituted in the process).

High Level Trolling

Now if that wasn’t enough, a certain someone decided to troll the BJP lawmaker who posted the song on social media.

Director General ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor was the one to point out BJP’s attempt at cheap creativity.

“Glad that you copied. But copy to speak the truth as well. #PakistanZindabad,”

Pakistan is happy to serve as inspiration and a role model India can try and imitate. But lets just credit the source shall we?

DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor pointed out the blatant act of copying ‘Dil Ki Himat Watan’ on social media.

Irony Died Here

MLA Raja Singh even dedicated the ISPR track to his nation’s armed forces ( talk about being ironic or just hilarious). At least they did make an effort to replace the word Pakistan with Hindustan (just imagine if they didn’t).

Just in case, we have included the original song here:

BJP tried to go Bollywood with this ‘remix’ (actually its more of a cover) but they forgot the point of a  remix is to change the rift (which they didn’t).

How will this blooper reflect on BJP’s election campaign? BJP has made no secret of its anti-Pakistan election campaign, so we’re just chuckling at how one of their lawmakers could just dedicate a Pakistani song to their armed forces. We think ‘dil ki himat watan’ will be getting more play because of this ill-thought stunt by the Indian lawmaker.

  1. This is also a reflection on the nature of Pakistani songs ISPR is engaged in composition as “patriotic” songs. There was a time such songs were on lines of “Allah O Akbar … Allah ke rehmat ka saya, tauheed ka parcham lehraya” The focus was deen and the army’s role on its upkeep. And so because of that subtext, no Indian ever copied those songs. But songs that are currently being composed for the Pak Army, their lyrics pay homage to patriotism and nationalism, and their tunes suit well to Indian filmi item number. Which makes them feasible for Indians to copy them
