Did Nishat Linen Copy a Design for a Prêt Kurta from a Book Again?

This year, it was a register. Previously, it was a from a collection of Chiri Yukie’s work.

Netizens had a good laugh at major clothing brand Nishat Linen this week after a customer discovered a women’s prêt shirt with a design that he alleged was copied from a cheaply priced notebook.

The world of fashion is extremely competitive and every fashion brand has to get creative with its design. Fashion designers think outside the box to draw inspiration from famous paintings, majestic natural sceneries, social issues, abstract art, and pop culture references. However, it seems like Nishat Linen found inspiration from a notebook.

A customer spotted a ready-to-wear women’s shirt by Nishat Linen on Monday, with a flock of ducks in an orange background. he declared that it looked inspired by a notebook that is commonly found at local bookstores.

The Lahore-based shopper, Mashal A. Chaudhry, shared her discovery on the popular Facebook group, Voice of Customer, and said, “Yesterday, I went to Emporium Mall and saw a shirt from the latest collection of Nishat Linen:.

She added,

Its design was 100% copy of my register which I bought one and half years ago from an Urdu bazaar worth Rs. 120. This is how designers of Nishat Linen work.

The orange designer shirt in question is from Nishat Linen’s latest prêt collection. The one-piece shirt was originally priced at Rs. 3,060 but is now available with a 40% discount on the brand’s official website.

Twitterati trolled the popular fashion brand on social media for being lazy with its designs.

One tweep revealed that this isn’t the first time that Nishat Linen has copied artwork from books. The user shared a picture of another ready-to-wear shirt with a design copied from international author Chiri Yukie’s book The Song the Owl God Sang.

The Original Artist

Although the design can be easily found on any register or notebook from your local bookstore, the original artwork is made by a graphic designer by the name of Anna Susak, and published on Behance on 20 July 2020.

Nishat Linen is of the largest retailers in Pakistan and is a very popular fashion brand from Lahore that sells ready-to-wear and unstitched clothes for both men and women.

For now, it is not clear whether Nishal Linen copied the design from the notebook or if it was vice-versa. It has not yet issued a statement on the matter yet. Meanwhile, Lens has reached out to it for a comment.

  1. Artist is artist!
This is not a logic. If someone doesn’t like that shirt neither she is compelled to wear nor to buy. There are so many things that we copy from another one. Basically this world has a great process involved of so called IMMITATION. What if someone used her barin which we normally dont. Be positive enough to let go minute things. It is not a big deal.😊
