Either you love Maryam Nawaz or you hate her – and there seems to be no middle ground for those who know the daughter of the PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif. She has been part of many controversies where Maryam Nawaz is savagely criticized by the public. After repeated attacks on her for her over-the-top expensive clothing, people are now wondering what’s in the glass she’s always holding.
Maryam Nawaz has been in the limelight since her political debut – the 47-year-old has been giving speeches, appearing for interviews, and organizing events. While she might not wear her famous Manolo Blahnik shoes again, there is one thing she is never seen without – her famous steel glass.
She was holding it during her meeting with Bilawal Bhutto:
She’s also often seen holding it during her political assemblies and gatherings:
Or during her casual cruises around town:
What’s in the cup!?
We’re assuming that after the famous ‘what’s in the box’ meme we will have our own Pakistani version; what’s in the cup? Many people are drawing comparisons with the Cup of Jamshid. According to Persian mythology, a similar steel glass was passed down to rulers of ancient Greater Iran.
So, naturally, netizens are speculating whether she too has a mystical glass that tells fortunes. Others have also pointed out that metal is believed to ward off evil eyes in rural areas. Could she be using the glass for either or both reasons? We don’t know yet, and the only person who can confirm is Maryam Nawaz herself.
On lighter note why is Maryam Nawaz holding a steel glass during the @BBCUrdu interview?
I have heard metal is used to ward off evil eye in rural areas ?

For now, all we know is that there is a steel glass (which could be a travel mug – given the screw on its lid area) that Maryam Nawaz likes to take EVERYWHERE she goes. What do you think is going on here? Let us know in the comments section.
